The landscape in the West of Hainichland is affected by Werratal, where the river Werra mined its way deeply into the rock and left a fascinating natural scenery. Due to the mild climate a Mediterranean flora and fauna could develop. Cities and villages along the river with its extra charming half-timbered houses and numerous castles can be reached by foot, bike or canoe.

The legendary Wartburg castle or the Drachenschlucht valley located in Eisenach, the sculpture trail at village Hütscheroda, the European-Youth-Castle in Behringen or the highest located city of the Hainich “Craula”, are some of the touristy highlights which await the visitor in the South of Hainichland.

The North of Hainichland is affected by cities embedded in a densely wooded landscape. Staying in the district city Mühlhausen, famous because of the reformer Thomas Müntzer, you can visit numerous churches, promenade on historic paths or relax at the thermal bath “Thüringentherme”. Located at the southern Eichsfeld you can visit the geographical center point of Germany next to the open-air museum of the Germanic place of worship nearby the municipality Niederdorla.

In the eastern part of Hainichland widespread orchards with its flowerage in spring and rank fruits in summer and autumn extend as far as the eye can see. Besides the spa and rose city Bad Langensalza with its medieval city center, the horse riding centers of the neighboring communes and the picturesque Unstruttal, also an indoor playground located in Weberstedt and the path above the treetops at Thiemsburg belong to the travel destinations where you should necessarily plan a visit.
